About the Urban League of Portland Young Professionals

 

The Urban League of Portland Young Professionals (ULPDXYP) is a volunteer auxiliary of the Urban League of Portland that encourages young professionals from the ages 21-40ish to empower their communities and change lives through the Urban League Movement.

 

We provide service to the Urban League through volunteerism in areas of advocacy, civic engagement, and leadership development. Our goal is to build a pipeline of young leaders who consider Portland, Oregon their home and view the Urban League as key contributors to enhancing their personal development and professional success. 

 

 

YP Vision

As young professionals, we strive to be power brokers in our industries and community. We work toward achieving equal opportunity and access to education, housing, healthcare, and jobs.

 

 

What We Do

The Portland Urban League Young Professionals host professional development events, create opportunities for dialogue in the arts & civic engagement topics, advocate for cultural and generational diversity in the workplace, partner with local minority entrepreneurs, and create opportunities for our member to build community in the Portland region. ABOUT THE URBAN LEAGUE OF PORTLAND

Established in 1945, the Urban League of Portland is one of the oldest African American service, civil rights and advocacy organizations in the area. It is part of a network of over 90 National Urban League Affiliates across the country and are recognized as one of the leading voices for African Americans and other people of color in the region. It is a key coalition-builder amongst other African American organizations, and work extensively with both traditional and emerging African American groups, the faith-based community, minority businesses, and other organizations of color, including immigrants and refugees. The Urban League of Portland’s mission is to empower African Americans and others to achieve equality in education, employment, health, economic security and quality of life. Its programs include a distinctive blend of direct services, organizing, outreach, and advocacy. It offers workforce services, community health services, summer youth programming, senior services, meaningful civic engagement opportunities, and powerful advocacy.
